Hideo Furukawa and Toshiki Okada: Japan Now
Sat 24 Feb | 6.30pm | Auditorium
Free | Booking essential, click here to book via Eventbrite
Join Hideo Furukawa and Toshiki Okada as they take a walk on the weird side of urban life in fiction newly published in English translation.
Furukawa pays homage to Haruki Murakami in his book Slow Boat, a circular, mesmeric narrative of a young man attempting to escape Tokyo and the lovers who pursue him.
Okada’s book The End Of The Moment We Had, skewers the thrills and anxieties of modern Tokyo with two characters’ torrid affair in a love hotel, and a woman trapped inside her squalid flat by memories of her past.
The authors read and discuss their work and take questions from the audience.
Programmed by Modern Culture in partnership with the Japan Foundation and Sheffield University. Supported by Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, the Japan Society and Writers’ Centre Norwich
