Weavers Spinners and Dyers
Mon 26 to Sat 31 Mar
There are five guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers in Norfolk and members from all are spending time at Makers' Month, demonstrating and sharing their skills. Guild members are passionate about passing on traditional crafting skills and are happy to answer your questions. You can also have a go at many of the different techniques the guild members use to turn fleece into a finished item.
Interested in learning more? Book on a Weavers Spinners and Dyers Guild workshop - Weaving on the Round (20 Mar) | Dorset Buttons (26 Mar) | Kumihimo Workshop (27 Mar) | Weaving a Mat or Hanging (28 Mar) | Tapestry Weaving Workshop (30 Mar)
Costume and Textile Association
Tue 27 to Fri 30 Mar
Help sew and embroider a free-form patchwork of names and stories, following in the footsteps of Lorina Bulwer. Lorina was a Norfolk seamstress who created a remarkable tapestry while in a workhouse in Great Yarmouth, in the 19th century. Join Norwich University of the Arts graduate Kirstie Aylen and members of the Norwich Costume and Textile Association to take part in this unique project. Explore the therapeutic properties of stitching while discovering more about the textile heritage of Norfolk.
Hare All About It!
Mon 26 Mar to Sat 31 Mar
Watch one of the GoGoHares 2018 sculptures being painted ready for this summer's new trail around Norwich. This particular hare is being decorated by artists Tim Edwards and Fiona Muller, from ERM CIC, on behalf of the charity Chatterbox. Chatterbox is the name of the Norwich based talking newspaper and is one of the GoGoHare 2018 sponsors. The Go Go Hares 2018 trail starts on 24 June and runs through until 8 September, with 50 individually decorated hares placed around the city and raising money for Break, a Norfolk charity which helps vulnerable children. If you, or someone you know, would benefit from receiving an audio version of the local newspaper, absolutely free, contact Chatterbox. firstname.lastname@example.org / 01603 765365.
Poppy Plea: Commemorating 1914-18
Thu 15 Mar & Wed 28 Mar
Use your creative skills to take part in a county wide act of remembrance for the men and women of Norfolk who lost their lives in World War One. Norfolk Library Service plans to display a poppy for each of the fallen listed on Norfolk's war memorials. That's well over 15,000 people. All the poppies will be displayed in Norwich during Oct 2018 and then split into smaller displays, in the county’s libraries, for 11 Nov 2018. Today, join Library staff to make a poppy, or deliver any that you've made already. Materials will be provided at Makers Month sessions. Poppies can be made to any design, but must be no more than 10cm x 10cm (4in x 4in).
