After a staggering response of over 800 submissions, an expert panel has selected 70 pieces of work by our region’s artists for the exciting new exhibition Elements, which will be displayed in The Forum from Tuesday 26th January – Monday 15th February 2010.
The exhibition will feature a wide variety of artwork including sculptures, paintings and video media, all exploring the theme ‘Man and the Environment’. Each artist was given free reign to address the complex relationship between man and the natural world in any way they wished. The evocative nature of the topic appeared to be particularly fruitful, with outstanding pieces of work pouring in from artists across Norfolk , Suffolk , Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex .
The final decision was made by a prestigious panel composed of the celebrated local artist Colin Self, himself a pioneer of the 1960s Pop Art Movement; former V&A Director Dame Elizabeth Esteve-Coll and former Principal of Norwich School of Art and Design Professor Bruce W. Black, along with a representative of The Forum Trust.
The chosen winner will be selected and announced by the panel on the opening night, on Monday 25th January 2010, they will also be awarded prize money of £1,000, kindly supplied by the principal exhibition sponsor Bayer CropScience.
Dorothy Smith from The Forum Trust has said: “We have been totally overwhelmed not just with the number of submissions but with the quality as well. There has been some impressive work and it was incredibly difficult to narrow it down to just 70 pieces. We now feel that we have a really exciting exhibition showcasing great artistic talent from across the region, which will also prove to be a fascinating experience for visitors to The Forum”.
The selection of talented artists’ work will be displayed in The Forum’s Atrium for three weeks, and is sure to attract people from far and wide to view the innovative collection. To complement this, there will also be a display of student artwork from Hellesdon High School and Valley Primary, Elements Extra.
