Dragons breathe fire and fun in to The Forum

Children and adults beware! From Monday 2nd to Sunday 15th February, The Forum will be under siege from 5 fearsome dragons.

The arrival of the legendary winged beasts is part of the wider Norwich Dragon Festival celebrating dragons and their importance in the culture and history of Norwich city over many centuries.

Visitors will enter The Forum at their peril to experience the exhibition inspired by some of Norwich ’s finest historical buildings: Norwich Castle , Dragon Hall, The Assembly House, St James Mill and City Hall. Co-ordinated by The Forum Trust the project saw five school and community groups and over 300 children work with local artists to design and create their own works of dragon art. With funding from Norwich12 and the Heritage Lottery Fund, there was a strong focus on the architectural heritage of Norwich , and the groups each chose one of the Norwich12 buildings to give a historical context to their work.

Dorothy Smith of The Forum said, “The children and artists have thrown themselves into this project with fantastic enthusiasm and the result is a mix of exciting creative interpretations of dragons reflecting some of Norwich ’s most iconic heritage buildings. It’s a unique way to learn about Norwich ’s history and culture and the enduring importance of the mythical dragon to the city.”

Also taking place at The Forum in February, The Other Project will present an exhibition of new works, entitled Dragon Art, 9th – 15th February in the Atrium and  Manga Drawing Workshops will be held in the Norfolk & Norwich Millennium Library, 14th February (please call 01603 774781 to book).
