Poetry inspired by our planet
Aspiring local poets will get the chance to develop their creative skills and produce some original verse at two free poetry workshops taking place on Saturday 31st March at The Forum in Norwich. Organised by the Science, Art & Writing (SAW) Trust and The Forum Trust, as part of Earth Event at The Forum, the workshops will be led by writer Tom Corbett, who will give budding writers the opportunity to explore their own impressions of and responses to the breath-taking images of Earth from the Air outside The Forum. There will be one workshop at 10.30am for children aged 7-16 years, and a second workshop starting at 2pm for adults aged 17 and over. Places are limited to 15 per session and must be booked in advance via Origins at The Forum.
In addition to the workshops, writers of all ages are being invited to enter the Science, Art and Writing (SAW) Poetry Competition 2007. Poems should be inspired by the images of the Earth from the Air exhibition. Entries will be judged by George Szirtes, winner of the TS Eliot poetry prize 2005. Winners will each receive the book of the Earth from the Air exhibition and will be invited to read their poem at a meeting of the Norwich Café Writers. The closing date for entries is Sunday 29th April.
To book a place at one of the workshops or to pick up a competition entry form go to Origins at The Forum or telephone 01603 727922. There will be three age categories (12 and under, 13-16 and 17 and over).
