Norwich to host greatest show on Earth
March 2007 will see Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s awe-inspiring Earth from the Air images arrive in Norwich city centre for a two-month period, including the Easter holidays. Earth from the Air is a Wecommic8 event and is brought to Norwich courtesy of an initiative by The Forum Trust, which has been supported by a wide range of partners.
Local people, as well as visitors to the area, will be able to see this spectacular outdoor presentation of 120 large-scale photographs showing astonishing natural landscapes for free 24 hours a day as the huge flood-lit images will be positioned in high profile sites in the heart of the city, including The Forum. Every stunning aerial photograph captured by Yann Arthus-Bertrand tells a story about our changing planet and the open-air exhibition is an outstanding visual testimony to the world we live in today. A world with a growing population, shrinking biodiversity, polluted lands and oceans, a changing climate and a shortage of drinking water. A world, nevertheless, of beauty and of wonder.
To complement the exhibition The Forum, Norwich, will play host to an eight-week programme of activities that will inspire people, young and old, to take action against environmental deterioration.
Mark Hand, Marketing Manager at The Forum Trust, comments: “We are delighted to be bringing this internationally renowned exhibition to East Anglia and want to make the most of its presence by running our own programme of events alongside it. Our principal message is a little action by a lot of people will make a big difference. We are hoping to inspire people to make small lifestyle changes in order to safeguard our beautiful county and wondrous planet. Our diverse programme of events will help people to understand what action is already being taken by organisations, businesses and individuals and how they can act, using interactive workshops and themed activities.”
Supporters of this project include EEDA, CRed, Carbon Connections, Norwich Union, Chapelfield Shopping Centre, Visit Norwich, Norfolk County Council and Norwich City Council. The eight week long exhibition will feature a selection of Earth from the Air images including the one above, Mangrove Swamp of Coeur de Voh - France, New Caledonia. The full collection of images can be viewed at www.earthfromtheair.com.
A detailed programme of events will be released in early 2007, and will include activities aimed at local businesses, school children, students, families, home-owners and tourists.
