Crown of Lights is Icing on the Cake

It’s back! It’s time to get your skates on! For the third successive year, the real-ice EDF Energy Ice Rink has been frozen onto Millennium Plain in front of The Forum. Over the weekend, hundreds of people who enjoyed skating in previous years have flocked to the rink to take part in what is becoming an very popular annual event here in Norwich.

This year the popular outdoor ice rink is bigger and brighter than ever before.  The rink is 48m2 larger to provide a generous skating arena for whirling and twirling, slipping and sliding. The icing on the cake this year, however, has to be the sparkling crown of lights over the ice rink, forming a glittering ceiling of 30,000 bright white bulbs. For the first time ever, the stunning Forum building is also lit up with curtains of white lights creating a magical winter wonderland.

Mark Hand, Marketing Manager at The Forum Trust, the company charged with the management of The Forum building said; “We wanted to make the EDF Energy Ice Rink look really different this year and hope that this fantastic ceiling of 30,000 bright white lights will be the crowning glory on an already very popular wintertime activity here in Norwich.”

Skaters and spectators certainly seem to think so with crowds of people gathering on Millennium Plain around the rink to admire the view. Strobe lights from the top of the Forum building are also illuminating the sky right across the city.
