BBC Voices BBC Voices uses the resources and expertise of the BBC for the benefit of the community. It has 10 computers with photo, film and audio editing programmes and can help people make their own films and audio features.
A variety of projects are run from the BBC Voices room and out in the community throughout the year. The BBC Voices team works with people of all ages, from school groups to Age Concern. Sometimes the projects have been initiated by BBC Voices, for example, ‘Telling Your Family Tree’, but we are also open to ideas from individuals and community groups.
The People’s Archive
BBC Voices has linked up with the Norfolk Record Office, Libraries and Museum Service for a new venture, The People’s Archive. All too often we wait hundreds of years before we start looking back at the way people lived. By then a lot of the material has been lost. The People’s Archive is all about giving people the chance to talk about their lives now. This information will then be stored away for future generations to enjoy. BBC Voices has already filmed every stall on Norwich market before the renovations were completed and is giving every Norwich City fan the chance to make history with A Fan’s Eye View.
Much of the work carried out by the BBC Voices team, headed up by Gary Standley, BBC Voices Producer, is about storytelling. If people learn more about the media, filming and computers along the way then that is all to the good. The BBC Voices team want people not only to listen to radio, watch TV or use their website – but learn how to make their own programmes and features as well.
