Opera Al Fresco

arias in the open air...

The magic of opera was brought to Norwich for two nights this summer, when touring company Opera Brava performed two nights of free outdoor opera at The Forum.

The Forum Trust engaged Opera Brava to run a free, week long summer school for local children. Based at The Garage, 80 children took part in a host of arts, crafts and musical tuition, culminating in a performance of C. S. Lewis' classic tale, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on Friday 27 July. Read one young participant's experiences of the week on the BBC Norfolk website.

On Saturday 28 July, Millennium Plain came alive once again, this time for a performance of Bizet's popular and passionate tale, Carmen. Opera Brava performed the crowd-pleasing favourite to an audience of over 1000 people seated around the amphitheatre. Whilst many had planned to come to the event, others were just passing and got so caught up in the spectacle that they stayed to find out how the story would unfold. Judging by the rapturous applause at the end, they were not disappointed.
