The perfect place to enjoy your lunch break this summer!


2008 sees a second helping from our summer street art series. Millennium Plain will be buzzing every weekday lunchtime to some of the best street entertainment provided by performers from across the UK and abroad.
 
Take time out from the office or laze away a few hours over lunchtime and enjoy the sights, sounds and silliness in our bite-size entertainment series.
 
Packed into our lunchbox this year will be everything from street art to skiffle, circus to samba – something to suit all tastes!

WEEK 1

Mon 21 JulArtizani
Desert Island Discs 
 
A fantastic opening for the first day of Lunchbox! Artizani returns to The Forum to perform his brand new show – complete with castaway, Desert Island, palm trees, a curse and a giant lobster finale!
 
 

Tue 22 JulMechanical
Mechanical Matelots  
 
A healthy serving of chaotic dance, giant mannequins and elaborate stunts from the world travelled Grand Theatre of Lemmings.

Infectious and incredibly funny Goronwy Thom is guaranteed to satisfy any crowd with his highly skilled show.

These 1980s PE Teachers are on a mission to get the nation fit for the 2012 Olympics using only their enthusiasm, a roving musical pommel horse and some PE kits rescued from the lost and found locker.

Bruce Airhead             
 
Watch in disbelief the metamorphosis of a man into a six-foot balloon! Wearing only brightly coloured lycra shorts, Bruce Airhead slides his body completely inside an over-sized balloon, dancing all the while to a fast changing sequence of music.

Join the Fairy Famous Family for a game of tennis! A hilarious and thrilling 'one setter' is played out live before an enraptured crowd with all the drama of the real thing including slow motion replays, heated line calls and live commentary.

Jon Hicks returns to The Forum with a new show set to satisfy any appetite. Painting, drawing, sculpting and origami are all on the menu, finished off with his legendary finale!

The Twelve Tasks of Hercules

Lunchbox favourites, Jones and Barnard will perform their new show featuring incredible feats of strength, cuddly toy carnage and the best sword fight since 600BC.

 
 

Wed 6 AugInvisible Men
The Invisible Men    
 
Combining playful assaults and loony-tunes style violence, The Invisible Men present their new act. Set entirely to music and sound effects without a spoken word, the show crossbreeds comedy, audience participation and genuine visual trickery.

The Half Naked Chef         
 
Steve “Woko” Jackson, a spoof Australian TV cook, gives a culinary demonstration that would make Delia Smith's hair stand on end! A non-stop send-up of every cooking show that has ever been.

Bagas Degol 
 
Join Bagas Degol during your lunch break to enjoy their distinctive and stirring sound, delivered with a powerful raw edge. Drawing on folk and dance traditions from Cornwall and across Europe, combining bagpipes, clarinet, tabor drum and percussion.

The New Maniax Mark 2  
 
Previous winners of the prestigious Street Entertainers of the Year award, this new show is even better! A fast moving comedy jam-packed with tricks and gags featuring a spectacle of chains, padlocks and stunts taking place on an 8 foot high platform.

Bernie Bennett   
 
Heart-stopping tightrope skills and comic buffoonery are all  on the menu with the welcome return of Bernie Bennett to the Lunchbox arena. Watch out for his sudden transformation into a superhero!
 
 

Wed 13 AugSpurting Man
Spurting Man          
 
Performed to Ravel’s Bolero without a spoken word this show is meticulous to character and detail. The pompous 'Spurting Man' shows his tricks whilst his dominated assistant is given no credit for the role he plays. The bizarre and unequal relationship lays the basis for a series of comic interactions.
